HERMISTON, OR - Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) is pleased to welcome Obstetrician and Gynecologist (OB/GYN) Christopher Bowen, DO, to its medical staff and Good Shepherd Women’s Center. He joins Drs. Leila Keeler, Allison Khavkin, Keith Lutter and Ken Snider, as well as Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) Cynthia Rice and Kelli Stephenson.
Dr. Bowen recently completed his residency at Henry Ford Wyandotte in Wyandotte, Michigan after graduating from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and is board eligible by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Born in Kennewick, WA and spending his childhood growing up in Yakima, WA, Dr. Bowen is happy to be back in the Pacific Northwest where he is closer to family again. “As a child, my father used to take me on motorcycle rides here in Hermiston and my grandfather was born here as well - It’s really great to be back,” he shared.
When asked why he chose this field of medicine he stated, “You can’t get a broader spectrum of patient care. OB/GYNs are here for women’s care from being born, coming into their own, becoming mothers to menopause - there is no medicine more intimate and unique.”
Robotics is a highly-desired service for patients seeking laparoscopic surgeries. “I’m trained in da Vinci Robotics with both the old and new systems. This makes for precise incisions and shorter recovery times for surgeries such as hysterectomies. The robot provides us with enhanced abilities that takes complicated laparoscopic procedures and makes them less complicated,” stated Dr. Bowen.
Good Shepherd Women’s Center provides healthcare services to females of all ages, including screenings, well-woman exams, birth control consults, prenatal care and more. The OB/GYNs and CNMs work collaboratively throughout prenatal care and delivery to ensure patients and their babies are as safe and healthy as possible. Maternal-Fetal Medicine (for high-risk pregnancies) is also available through Legacy Emmanuel in Portland, a specialty not normally available in rural health care systems.
“I’m excited to be part of a growing community and to make a difference in women’s health in Eastern Oregon,” shared Dr. Bowen. When not working, Dr. Bowen enjoys being outdoors and spending time with his significant other, Natalie, and their three children.
Dr. Bowen is welcoming new patients at Good Shepherd Women’s Center, located at 620 NW 11th Street, Suite 106 in Hermiston, OR.
