HERMISTON - This morning, the Oregon Department of Education released the graduation rates for all public-school districts in Oregon. The rates show Hermiston High School holding steady from last year.
The graduation rate of 74.37 percent for the 2018-2019 school year was a slight increase over the 2017-2018 school year’s rate of 74.2 percent. The district also had a strong showing with a four-year completer rate of 86.5 percent in comparison to the state’s average of 83.7 percent. The four-year completer rate includes students who earned an extended diploma or GED in addition to those who earned a standard or modified diploma, as presented in the graduation rate calculation.
Director of Secondary Instruction, Scott Depew stated, “In 2017, the Hermiston School District developed a comprehensive plan that focused on maintaining the district’s high expectations while developing targeted strategies and support systems to address lagging graduation rates. Since then, the district has seen over a 10% increase in graduation rates. Through the hard work of our students, parents, and staff we are making significant progress that is real, and sustainable. We anticipate that our rates will continue to climb.”
